Poundland in Wealdstone is set to close its doors for good on 6 September, Harrow Online can reveal.
The closure was confirmed after the store was listed as “retail premises to let” on Zoopla, with an asking rent of £130,000 per year.
The listing describes the unit as a fully fitted retail space with a full-height basement, located in a prime spot on Wealdstone High Street next to Boots and opposite Asda.
When approached, a spokesperson for Poundland told Harrow Online: “We were aware that the landlord wanted to re-let the premises which is why we told colleagues there in June that we would only be able to trade until 6 September.”
They added: “We know this will be disappointing to customers and colleagues and we’ve begun a formal consultation process with them.”
The Wealdstone branch joins a growing number of Poundland stores expected to shut this summer. It comes after the discount chain was sold to US investment firm Gordon Brothers for just £1, with several closures already taking place across the country.
The Zoopla listing notes that the unit has a floor area of over 7,000 sq ft across two floors and is located within a mixed-use development.
It is now available on a new lease and could potentially be used for retail, medical or gym purposes. However, planning restrictions mean it cannot be used as a takeaway, bar, or nightclub.
