The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Yeading Brooks, warning residents in parts of Harrow and Hillingdon that flooding is possible from tomorrow morning (Saturday, 19 July).
The Yeading Brook is made up of two branches – the East and West Brooks – which flow through several areas of west and north-west London. The Yeading Brook West begins in the Ruislip Gardens area, while the Yeading Brook East rises near Headstone Manor in Harrow. Both streams flow southwards, eventually merging near South Ruislip before continuing on towards Northolt, Yeading, and Hayes, where they join the River Crane.
The flood alert, issued at 3:52pm on Friday, says that overnight rainfall is expected to cause river levels to rise by the morning. Areas most at risk include Ruislip, South Ruislip, Eastcote, Northolt, Roxbourne, and parts of Hillingdon.
Flooding is possible along:
- Yeading Brook (East) near Roxbourne and Headstone
- Yeading Brook (West) through Ruislip and South Ruislip
- Areas surrounding where the two streams merge near RAF Northolt
The Environment Agency advises the public to avoid low-lying footpaths, parks, and bridges close to watercourses. Further rain is expected throughout Saturday, and the situation may change.
A new update will be issued by 11:30am on Saturday 19 July or earlier if needed.
