Residents in Stanmore were woken by London Fire Brigade firefighters knocking on doors at around 5am this morning (18 July) after severe flooding hit Uxbridge Road and surrounding streets.
The flooding was caused by a burst water main, leading to Uxbridge Road being completely closed near the junction with Masefield Avenue. At this time, the full extent of the damage is not yet known, and it remains unclear how long the road closures will remain in place.

Members of the Harrow Online Group on Facebook sent images and footage showing severe flooding in their gardens and across the street.
Meanwhile, members of The Stanmore Group have shared updates describing the impact on nearby roads. One resident posted, “It’s bad – we’re in Chartley Avenue (Road and Gardens flooded). Awoken by fire department at 4.50am. Chartley Avenue is closed at Uxbridge Road end too, there is a big crater and it will be closed for a while (they say days). Cannot drive through from Kenneth Gardens / Ashdale Grove down Chartley to Uxbridge Road (cars trying but having to turn around).”
Another said, “Stanmore is an absolute mess right now! This morning, a skip lorry decided to park on Haig Road – a very narrow street – and completely blocked it. Drivers trying to use it as a way around the chaos caused by temporary traffic lights had no chance. It took ages for the driver to move the lorry and let us through. Honestly, it feels like common sense just isn’t that common anymore.”

London Fire Brigade, Harrow Council, and Affinity Water remain at the scene. Road closures and diversions are in place, and bus routes 340 and H12 are still being diverted.

Traffic in and around Stanmore is expected to be severely delayed, especially during peak travel times. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
