Fryent Primary School in Kingsbury has been reaccredited with the prestigious Gold Award by UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting School programme.
This is the highest accolade given by UNICEF UK and recognises schools that demonstrate a deep and thorough commitment to children’s rights in every aspect of school life. Fryent originally achieved the Gold Award in December 2021 and has now proudly been reaccredited.
The school has been working with UNICEF UK since 2019, earning their Silver certificate in 2020 before progressing to Gold. They are now among over 600 schools across the UK to have received the Gold Award.
Deputy Head teacher of Fryent Primary, Lauren Quick, said: “We are incredibly proud to have achieved the UNICEF UK Gold Award, a powerful recognition of our commitment to putting children’s rights at the heart of everything we do. This award reflects the strength, compassion, and dedication of our entire school community. Through the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA), our pupils have grown into confident, respectful, and active global citizens. It has transformed the way we learn, lead, and support one another. Thank you to our amazing pupils and staff—your passion and hard work have made this achievement possible, and together, we’ve built a school where every voice matters and every right is respected.”
The Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools that put the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of their planning, policies, and practices. A Rights Respecting School is a place where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.
UNICEF UK works with nearly 5,000 schools across the country, including early years settings and schools for children with special educational needs. Schools report improvements in behaviour, relationships and well-being as a result of the programme, with benefits also seen in academic performance and attendance.
