A sinkhole has opened up in Northwood, forcing the closure of Rickmansworth Road in both directions this evening (Saturday, 19 July).
The hole appeared near the junction with Kewferry Road, leading to emergency services shutting the road just after 5pm. Bus routes have also been affected, with the 282 now terminating early at Northwood Station. Routes 331 and H11 are also being diverted.
Transport for London and local authorities are at the scene, and it’s not yet clear how long the road will remain closed.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and check for updates if they’re planning to travel through Northwood tonight.
