Two people have been arrested in Hatch End following a police patrol in response to rising motor vehicle crime in the area.
On Thursday 10 July, officers PC Bridger and PC Jones from the Harrow Weald and Hatch End Neighbourhood Policing Team were carrying out patrols around Elm Park after identifying a recent spike in incidents.
During the patrol, members of the public reported seeing a woman trying car door handles in a nearby car park. Officers then spotted a grey Toyota in poor condition, which drew further attention. PC Jones recognised the man in the driver’s seat as a known class A and prolific theft offender.

Checks revealed the vehicle was displaying false registration plates. Upon searching the car, officers found two disabled badges that did not belong to either occupant, as well as a UK passport that had been reported stolen from a man in Hillingdon.
Both individuals were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and handling stolen goods. They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.
PC Paul McCauley said: “Some excellent Police work conducted here, by officers teaming up from neighbouring wards, patrolling an emerging hotspot, and being in the right place at the right time.”
