A burst water pipe on The Highway in Stanmore caused major disruption on Thursday afternoon (24 July), with water flooding nearby roads and entering local shops and homes.
Emergency services, including firefighters, responded quickly to the scene near the junction of Kenton Lane and Mountside, close to the Duck in the Pond pub. The flooding affected College Hill Road, Bishop Ken Road, and several surrounding streets.
Kenton Lane was closed by emergency services, with significant damage to the road. Transport for London confirmed that bus routes H18 and H19 were being diverted due to the incident.

Water was seen flowing into shops opposite the pub, with one resident telling Harrow Online, “The firefighters are being very responsive and good with this. They’re helping a lady across and carrying her shopping for her.”
Other residents reported that their homes had been flooded. The list of affected streets included Beverley Gardens, Broadlawns Court, College Hill Road, Curzon Avenue, Felbridge Avenue, Hermitage Way, Kenton Lane, Mountbel Road, Mountside, St Edmunds Drive and Vernon Drive.
By around 7pm, the water levels had eased, but the road remained closed and is likely to stay shut for a considerable amount of time due to the extent of the damage.
