An elderly woman was mugged in Edgware on Thursday, 31 July, after a man on a black bike allegedly targeted her on Buckingham Road.
According to a post shared in the Inside Edgware page, “A male riding a black bike tried to snatch her bag, but as she held on to it he ripped the chain around her neck, which had her Dad’s cross on it and her Mums wedding ring.”
The man was described as being about 6ft tall, “dressed all in black, wearing a balaclava and sunglasses.”
Buckingham Road leads to Whitchurch Lane in Edgware and has two entrances, one of them is just outside Canons Park. The incident happened at around 12 noon and has been reported to police, according to the post.
The news comes as a similar incident was reported in South Harrow, with a video shared on the Harrow Online Facebook group showing what appears to be a necklace being snatched.
Residents are being urged to remain cautious. The original post warned: “please all be vigilant, report any suspicious activity to police via 101 or 999 if a crime is in action.”
Anyone offered a chain, cross, or wedding ring for sale is also asked to get in touch with police.
