A North Harrow resident has contacted Harrow Online following our recent coverage of widespread paan spitting, saying the situation is far worse than previously shown.
The original video, which went viral on social media and was picked up by major publications including Times of India, NDTV and Indian Express, showed red stains on pavements, trees, bins and public walls. Since the story was published, Harrow Online has received further reports from residents in Argyle Road, just off Station Road.
According to one resident, the problem is far more severe in that area, with fresh images taken on Argyle Road showing large amounts of staining. They claim they have been contacting Harrow Council for months without seeing any improvement.

The stains are caused by people spitting paan, a mix of betel leaf, areca nut, and sometimes tobacco, and a problem that is not limited to Harrow. In recent months, similar issues have been reported in other UK cities including Leicester and Birmingham.
Harrow Council enforcement officers have been tackling the issue by issuing fines of up to £100 and reminding businesses to help discourage people from spitting outside their premises.
Some residents believe the problem is linked to groups of scooter riders who gather in certain areas. Argyle Road has been described as a hotspot, with residents noting that newly resurfaced tarmac is already becoming heavily stained. They say the layout of the road, including customer collection bays, makes it an easy place for multiple scooters to park.

In a previous statement, Harrow Council said that paan spitting was “not only unhygienic and unpleasant, but also costs money to clean up” and encouraged the public to report offenders to assist enforcement efforts.
The original footage shared by Harrow Online has now been viewed by millions of people and continues to circulate online, with increasing calls for tougher penalties and for fast food delivery companies to take responsibility if their drivers are involved.
