A wave of transport strikes is set to cause significant disruption over the upcoming August Bank Holiday weekend, with both rail and underground services affected.
On Saturday, August 23rd, CrossCountry train services will be completely suspended on certain key routes, including lines between Birmingham, Reading, and the South Coast, as well as between Leicester, Cambridge, and Stansted Airport. A limited timetable will run on Monday, August 25th, so passengers are strongly advised to check their journeys in advance and consider alternative routes if needed.
Large crowds are expected at events across the UK such as Notting Hill Carnival in London (on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday), the Reading and Leeds festivals and the opening of the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
London Underground workers will also begin a series of rolling strikes from September 5th onward, potentially leading to further disruptions for commuters and visitors in the capital.
A spokesperson for the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) said, “Our members are taking this action as a last resort after long-running disputes over pay and working conditions.”
Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and stay updated on service changes. More updates will be available as the situation develops.
