With the Summer bank holiday fast approaching, there will be some changes to bin collections for residents of Brent and Harrow. Perhaps somewhat depressingly, it will be the last public holiday before Christmas Day but at least the weather is expected to be pleasant.
This August bank holiday was initially introduced as a way to give us all a chance to make the most of the summer. Up until 1971 it took place on the first Monday of the month, however it was eventually moved to the last one of the month as it clashed with a two-week shut-down that many companies used to go through. This year, the bank holiday falls on Monday, August 25.
Local authorities have advised residents to check their bin collection days to ensure their rubbish gets taken away. Listed below are the changes to the bin collection schedule made by Brent Council and Harrow Council this bank holiday.
Brent
General waste kept inside the grey bin and garden waste will still be collected on the bank holiday as scheduled. So, if your normal collection day is Monday, then it will still be collected on bank holiday Monday.
However, recycling bins, the paper and cardboard bags, and food waste collections will be one done a day later than usual. This will affect collections on bank holiday Monday, with them instead being collected one day later on Tuesday.
There will also be no Bulky Waste or Small Items Collection on the bank holiday. Residents can enter their postcode on the Brent Council website to find out their specific bin collection day.
Harrow
Harrow Council has confirmed that there will be no bin collections of any kind on bank holiday Monday. Residents have been advised to leave their bins out the day after their typical collection day.
For those collections scheduled on Monday (August 25), households should put the bins out on Tuesday (August 26) and so on. Therefore, if your collection date is Tuesday (August 26) bins should be left out on Wednesday (August 27), if Wednesday (August 27) then leave out for Thursday (August 28), if Thursday (August 28) on Friday (August 29), and if Friday (August 29) on Saturday (August 30).
Residents can enter their postcode on the council website to find out exactly when the bins for their road will be collected.
