The RSPCA has launched an appeal after the body of a bulldog was found inside a suitcase on a public bridleway in Barnet.
The discovery was made on Arkley Lane on 9 August by a member of the public, who alerted the RSPCA.
Animal Rescue Officer Georgina Parsons, who is investigating, said: “This is an extremely distressing discovery on a public right of way. The dog – a bully type breed – was in an advanced state of decomposition and appeared severely emaciated.
“The head was protruding from the suitcase, with visible decomposition around the eyes and muzzle.
“The animal had no collar or tags, and a check for a microchip proved unsuccessful. Only two blankets were found alongside the dog inside the case.
“We’re asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or who has any information about this discovery to contact us.”
The appeal comes after another dog was also found dead in Harrow just days earlier.
Anyone with information is asked to call the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018 quoting reference number 1600887.
The charity has also urged people to support its Summer Cruelty Appeal. More details are available at rspca.org.uk/endcruelty
