A brand-new £22 million SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) school has opened in Wembley, welcoming its first pupils after a year-long construction project.
Wembley Manor School, located on London Road, provides 150 much-needed specialist places for local secondary-aged children. Until now, many families in Brent had to travel outside the borough to find the right support, but the new school means children can now learn and thrive closer to home.
The new building spans 3,801 square metres over three floors and is made up of 121 modular units, all manufactured offsite by contractor Reds10 in East Yorkshire before being transported and installed in Brent.
Designed with pupils’ needs in mind, the school features bright, modern classrooms and specialist spaces to support learning, wellbeing and independence. It has also set new standards for sustainability, with the building on track to achieve one of the highest environmental ratings.
Cllr Gwen Grahl, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, and Schools, said: “It’s fantastic to see pupils settling into their new school. Wembley Manor will make a huge difference for families in Brent, and I know it will become a place where children feel supported, valued, and inspired.”
Headteacher Andrew Chaplin added: “Our new school building is already making such a positive impact. The children love their new classrooms, and staff are excited to be teaching in such a purpose-built environment. This is the start of a very special journey for our school community.”
