St Luke’s Hospice’s volunteer gardeners in Kenton are celebrating after scooping four top prizes at this year’s London Gardens Society Hospices Competition.
The much-loved gardens at Kenton Grange earned Gold for the Memory Garden and Gold for the Large Garden, along with Silver for Patios and Pots. The team also received the London Hospices Bowl – the competition’s highest honour, awarded for overall excellence across hospice gardens.
Gardening coordinator Jacki Baker and her husband attended the awards ceremony at London’s Guildhall to accept the prizes on behalf of St Luke’s Hospice.
Jacki said she was thrilled with the results and praised the volunteer team for their hard work and passion.

“We’re all home-trained and not professional gardeners,” she said. “Many of us have been volunteering here for years, and we all come for our own reasons – some have been supported by the hospice in one way or another – but we love gardening, and we’re very proud of these awards.”
The gardens at St Luke’s have been recognised by the London Gardens Society for more than 25 years, continuing a long tradition of excellence.
Lindsey Bennister, Chief Executive of St Luke’s Hospice, added: “The gardens are such a special part of St Luke’s – a place of calm, beauty and life. Jacki and our volunteer gardeners put their hearts into everything they do, and we’re so proud of what they’ve achieved. It’s a real team triumph.”
Patients and visitors often describe the hospice gardens as one of the most peaceful and uplifting spaces at St Luke’s – a place filled with colour, care and compassion.
This latest success is a testament to the dedication and love that the volunteer team pour into every plant, flowerbed and pathway throughout the year.
