Shaftesbury High School was presented with a new Variety Club Sunshine minibus last week, sponsored by the Inflexion Foundation.

The Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Anjana Patel, officially opened the new vehicle with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. She was joined by Richard Scott, Lindsey Cape and Laurence Guinness from the Variety Club, along with Marcus Ward and Sarah Gestetner from the Inflexion Foundation.

Guests were welcomed with a student-led tour of the school and refreshments prepared by the food tech project group.

As a special needs school, we will be using the bus daily as part of our hugely popular and successful enrichment programme, enabling us to take more and more students out on school trips and into the community.

To quote from our recent outstanding Ofsted report: “Inspectors found that Shaftesbury offers “exceptional” personal development through experiences like local community visits, travel training, and work placements. These opportunities help pupils “grow in their understanding of the local area and beyond” and support their readiness for adulthood.” Deborah added ” the new minibus will be used to build on and further extend our personal development and enrichment programme.”

The old Shaftesbury High School minibus was not ULEZ compliant.

The new vehicle follows on from Shaftesbury High School’s previous minibus being donated to a charity supporting Ukraine due to rising ULEZ-related costs, a story first covered by Harrow Online last year.
