Work has started on a major new cycle route that will link Harrow Town Centre with Pinner Station, the council has confirmed.
The scheme is being delivered by Harrow Council in partnership with TfL. It aims to make travelling between the two areas safer for cyclists and people walking to shops, stations, schools, parks and bus stops.
Consultations on the four sections of the route took place during 2023 and 2024. The first three sections received strong support and moved forward to detailed design. A further consultation on the final section in Pinner was carried out in early summer 2025. After reviewing the feedback and making design changes, the Portfolio Holder for Finance and Highways approved the plans.
Preparatory work has now begun on Sections 1–3, covering the stretch from Station Road through to Pinner Road.
According to the council, “This project is about more than just cycling — it’s about creating safer, greener, and more welcoming streets for everyone who lives, works, or studies in the area.”
The improvements include safer junctions, upgraded crossings, and new greening throughout the route. Some of the biggest changes will take place along Station Road in North Harrow and Marsh Road in Pinner, with additional works planned through West Harrow.
In Harrow Town Centre, work will involve lighting, signage and other upgrades that link in with the wider town centre improvement programme.
In West Harrow, the scheme will bring tighter junctions, extra pavement space, new greening near the station and Vaughan School, and changes to help slow traffic.
North Harrow will see a new parallel zebra crossing on Imperial Drive, a continuous cycle track, a relocated bus stop near the station, and renewed pavements with extra planting.
In Pinner, continuous cycle tracks will run from the Cecil Park 20mph zone to Station Approach. There will also be new public realm improvements outside Jubilee Parade, updated zebra crossings on Marsh Road and Station Approach, and renewed pavements with rain gardens and greening.
Work on Sections 1–3 is starting now and will continue in phases through 2025 and 2026. Construction on Section 4, covering Marsh Road, is expected to begin in January 2026 near Pinner Synagogue, subject to final checks.
The council says updates will be shared as the scheme progresses.
