A man has been jailed for six months after sexually assaulting a woman on a packed Central Line service during the morning rush hour.
British Transport Police said a 35-year-old man targeted a woman in her thirties on a westbound train after boarding at Liverpool Street on Wednesday 2 October 2024.
Jatinder Singh, known as Vicky Singh Sangha, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to Sexual Assault and was sentenced to six months at London Inner Crown Court on Tuesday 25 November. He was also ordered to pay a £187 surcharge and will be required to register with police for the next 10 years.
Police said Sangha used the crowded conditions on the train to try and hide what he was doing from other passengers. The victim texted BTP on 61016, and officers arrested Sangha days later after he was recognised outside King’s Cross Station.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Steven Ridpath-Mitchell said: “Sangha’s opportunistic behaviour was totally unacceptable, the victim was trying to go about her daily life on her way to work and should not have been subjected to his abhorrent and despicable actions.
“It is down to the bravery of the victim and the keen observation of an officer that we have been able to arrest, charge and sentence Sangha and see him held accountable.
“The victim has bravely supported the investigation throughout, ensuring that Sangha will now have plenty of time to think about his actions while in prison and feel the consequences for years to come.
