A man has been arrested in Rayners Lane on suspicion of drug driving after police stopped a car during proactive patrols.
Harrow police said the arrest happened on Thursday, 11 December. Officers became suspicious after a vehicle appeared to avoid them by making evasive manoeuvres.
When the car was stopped, the driver gave false details. Further checks revealed his identity and showed he only held a provisional driving licence and had no insurance.
A search of the vehicle uncovered cannabis, and a roadside drug test returned a positive result. The man was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs. He will also face court for driving without insurance and not driving in accordance with his licence.
Police confirmed he was issued with a penalty notice for cannabis possession and the vehicle was seized.
PS Exworthy, the local ward sergeant, praised the officers involved. He said: “This is another example of Harrow’s Local Policing Team’s officers using proactive skills to take criminals off our roads. We remain committed to keeping our communities safe. In the same shift, officers also arrested an individual for breaching bail conditions.”
If convicted, drug driving can carry serious consequences, including a driving ban, a criminal record, unlimited fines and the possibility of a prison sentence. Driving without insurance and without the correct licence can also result in penalty points, further fines and disqualification.
