Police have arrested a man after a series of shoplifting incidents across Harrow Weald.
Officers said the arrest was made on Tuesday, 9 December, following quick work by local Safer Neighbourhood Teams. The suspect was identified after the latest incident and traced soon after.
CCTV from one of the shops gave officers a clear image of the man. They later went to an address on Boxtree Lane in Harrow Weald, where he was arrested and taken into custody.
Police said the 32-year-old local resident has been linked to eight offences between September and December. The goods stolen are valued at more than £2,000. He has been charged in connection with all of the offences and remains in custody. He is due to appear before magistrates on Wednesday, 10 December.
Local shop owners have welcomed the quick action by police.
Acting Police Sergeant Rob McLuskey said: “Thanks to the quality of the CCTV footage and the quick collaboration between teams, we were able to identify the suspect within hours. This case demonstrates the vital role of CCTV and community cooperation in tackling retail crime.”
