A company providing food, hospitality and support services at Northwick Park Hospital has acted on the wishes of a young cancer patient who wanted hospitals to do more for children and their families.
Sophie Fairall, who passed away at home aged 10 after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, created a wish list setting out how hospital care for children could be improved.
Her wishes, known as Sophie’s Legacy, included making sure parents are fed while staying with their children in hospital.
In response, Medirest Compass Group Healthcare Services has agreed to provide a complimentary meal to parents staying with their child in Jack’s Place, the children’s ward at Northwick Park Hospital.
Sophie’s mum, Charlotte, attended the launch, where she shared her daughter’s wishes. These included improving the quality of hospital meals, ensuring play specialists are available seven days a week, and increasing funding for childhood cancer research.
Sophie’s Legacy continues to influence changes aimed at improving the experience of children and families spending time in hospital.
