A Freedom of Information (FOI) response has revealed that there have been no successful fly-tipping prosecutions in the past year at Weighton Road, a known fly-tipping hotspot in Harrow Weald.
The information was provided by Harrow Council following a request asking how many fly-tipping cases on the road had resulted in a successful court prosecution. The council confirmed the figure was zero.
In response, a spokesperson for Harrow Council said: “Thanks to two CCTV cameras and an ANPR camera, we’ve issued seven £1,000 fines to offenders. 4 prosecutions are currently taking place (3 are ongoing, 1 in preparation) – some of these have been featured in our wall of shame. This bin storage area is strictly for residents and businesses, unfortunately some individuals have been abusing it.
“We’re working with the landowner to install a secure, locked facility with clear signage to prevent fly-tipping and misuse of bins. Once this is installed, only authorised users will have access. Our CCTV will remain in place to catch anyone who ignores the rules. Fly-tipping is illegal, and we will continue crack down on the issue not just here but across Harrow.”
All seven fines were issued during the last financial year.
The council also said that Fixed Penalty Notices allow offenders to be fined £1,000 without cases going through the courts. Prosecutions, they added, depend on the severity of the offence and can take longer to conclude.
