A three-year-old girl was taken to hospital after falling into a pothole at Queensbury Park in Harrow, with her mother blaming an unrepaired hazard in the park.
The child’s mother, Katherine Doran, shared details of the incident in a post on the Harrow Online Facebook group, saying her daughter was riding a scooter when she fell into what appeared to be a puddle.
She wrote that her daughter “fell into a dangerous, unrepaired pothole in Queensbury Park, Harrow, while riding her scooter, believing it was only a puddle.”
According to the post, the child suffered injuries to her face and mouth and required medical treatment. She said her daughter “required both A&E treatment and a separate emergency dental appointment” and that she had been told the injuries could have longer-term consequences.
She added that “these injuries were entirely preventable and were the direct result of a hazardous public surface being left in a dangerous condition.”
In response, a spokesperson for Harrow Council said the area has now been made safe.
They said: “We are sorry to hear about this accident and the distress caused. We have investigated this and have now made the area safe by tarmacking the pothole to avoid any future accidents in the park. We’re repairing more potholes than ever before, with our teams responding to reports and prioritising those in urgent need of repair. We encourage everyone to report issues in our parks and streets online so they can be addressed as quickly as possible.”
