Belmont School in Harrow welcomed the Deputy Mayor of London last week to celebrate two Gold awards recognising its work on pupil wellbeing and healthy travel.
The school was visited by Joanne McCartney, Deputy Mayor of London, who attended to mark Belmont’s Gold Healthy Schools London award and Gold Travel for Life award from Transport for London (TfL).
The visit recognised the school’s approach to pupil wellbeing, including nutritious healthy lunches, increased participation in extracurricular sport for girls, and a strong focus on emotional and personal development.
During her visit, Joanne McCartney saw how wellbeing is embedded into everyday learning at the school. This includes inclusive outdoor learning and play, emotional literacy through the ROAR programme, and targeted support delivered via the Thrive Project. Belmont School has also been recognised as a Happy Harrow School through the Art of Brilliance programme.
The school also promotes children’s rights as part of its inclusive vision, teaching pupils about UNICEF rights and the importance of respect, equality and wellbeing for all learners.
Joanne McCartney is Deputy Mayor of London with responsibility for children and families. She also serves as a London Assembly Member and has previously worked as a teacher, with a long-standing focus on education, safeguarding and improving outcomes for young people across the capital.
