The leader of Brent Council has issued a lengthy statement after two boys were stabbed at Kingsbury High School, saying the borough has been left “deeply shaken” by the incident.
Both victims remain in hospital. Police have confirmed their injuries, while serious, are not life-threatening and they are in a stable condition.
A 13-year-old boy, described by officers as a former pupil at the school, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody. Police have said they believe this to be a one-off event and have urged the public not to speculate while enquiries continue.
Councillor Muhammed Butt said: “Yesterday, our very special community in Brent was shattered by an unthinkable act of violence. It has left families, friends, students, staff and residents across the borough deeply shaken.
“Our thoughts today remain with the two boys in hospital, thankfully now in a stable condition and I wish them well with their recovery at this unimaginably difficult time.”
He also praised the response from emergency services and school staff.
“Once again, I want to thank our blue light services. We are deeply grateful to the police officers and paramedics for their rapid response. They ran towards danger to protect our children, and our community will never forget that.
“I also want to pay tribute to the teachers and staff led by the Headteacher Alex Thomas at Kingsbury High: you protected your students and showed extraordinary care and courage.”
The council leader warned against misinformation and division in the aftermath of the attack.
“There must be no place for rumours, scapegoating or attempts to stir up racism or division in our community in response to this tragedy.”
He added that residents will see increased police patrols in the area in the coming days to reassure the school community while the investigation continues.
