We asked members of the Harrow Online Facebook page a simple question: what’s the worst junction in the borough?
Dozens of responses came in, with many pointing to the same locations again and again – with North Harrow highlighted as one of the more troublesome areas.
David Lawes said: “Roxeth Hill/Lower Road junction at the foot of Harrow Hill. Needs to be reverted to the mini roundabouts that were there before those dreadful traffic lights and box junction were installed. They’ve produced nothing but delays and accidents ever since.”
Several residents mentioned issues in North Harrow, especially around Pinner Road and Station Road.
Dawn Peterson wrote: “North Harrow, it’s a nightmare if you’re turning right towards The Ridgeway, definitely needs filter lights.”
Georgia Weston added: “North Harrow Station Rd/Pinner Road junction. Cyclist killed a few years ago. Very difficult for children to cross in the mornings.
“I can’t understand why nothing has been done after all the campaigning that’s gone on for the last 5 years.”
Teresa Arrigo also pointed to North Harrow, saying: “North Harrow. No filter lights, no pedestrian crossing. Continuous accidents and school children crossing every day.”
Elsewhere, Alexandra Avenue in Rayners Lane and the Northwick Park roundabout were mentioned as other concerns.
David Edward Wyld said: “Alexandra Avenue turning right onto Eastcote Lane proper dangerous, needs a right turn filter light.”
Jason P added: Since they changed the layout of the Northwick Park entrance, I find it harder to navigate that roundabout as you forget what lane to be in, the junction leading into it from Kenton Road can be tricky too as it doesn’t give you enough time to pull out due to the corner being quite short from the right when turning towards the hospital.
Some residents felt the problem is more widespread.
Hiten Shah simply replied: “All!”
Linda Barns commented on driver behaviour at certain junctions, writing: “People turn right in front of each other at these junctions when you should only do this if the road markings say so. Turning this way obscures your view of oncoming traffic.”
