A man previously linked to Pinner has been jailed for 28 years after shooting another man in broad daylight near the A41 in Watford.
Hekmat Galmne, 27, formerly of Village Way, Pinner, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Thursday 13 February. He had earlier been found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
The court heard that the shooting happened on 25 July 2024 near the A41 junction with Woodmere Avenue and Westlea Avenue. A jury concluded Galmne fired a shot during a confrontation which left a man with life-threatening injuries.
Detective Inspector Mark Butler said: “This was an appalling act of violence committed in broad daylight on a busy stretch of road.
“Galmne showed complete disregard for human life and for the safety of the public. It is only through sheer luck that this incident did not result in a fatality or injure innocent members of the public.
“Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of his actions and sends a clear message: violence of this nature will not be tolerated.
“We will relentlessly pursue anyone who chooses to carry or use a firearm in our communities, and they should expect to face very significant prison time.”
Earlier that afternoon, at around 3.30pm, violent disorder had been reported in Meriden Park. Just under two hours later, a man riding an e-bike southbound on the A41 became involved in an altercation with people in a black BMW being driven by Galmne.
The victim was taken to hospital and has since made a full recovery.
Hertfordshire Police said the case formed part of a wider investigation into a series of violent incidents in Watford during the summer of 2024. Other gang members have already been jailed over related offences, including disorder in Meriden Park and stabbings at premises in Clarendon Road and Brocklesbury Close.
A further trial connected to the shooting is due to take place in March.
Selin Johnson, 25, of High Meadow Crescent, London, and Zarmina Galmne, 25, of Village Way, Pinner, have both been charged with perverting the course of justice. They have been released on court bail ahead of trial.
