A vulnerable woman in Pinner is now safe after years of domestic abuse and exploitation, while her abuser has been jailed for a total of 10 years.
Harrow Local Policing Team carried out a series of welfare checks over the past year after concerns grew about the woman’s wellbeing. Officers found she had been subjected to long-term abuse and coercive control. Police also discovered she had been a victim of “cuckooing”, where offenders take over the home of a vulnerable person.
Working alongside specialist support services, officers helped relocate her to a safe address arranged through a domestic abuse charity. Throughout the process, she received continued support from the team. PC Wason built a strong rapport with her, helping her to share key information about the offending.
That intelligence led to the arrest and charge of her partner.
At Isleworth Crown Court, he was sentenced to six years in custody and a further four years on licence for domestic grievous bodily harm, assault by beating, and false imprisonment.
PS Bridges said: “Our priority was always her safety. By working together with our partners and building trust, we were able to help her find security and support while bringing a dangerous offender to justice.”
Harrow Local Police said they will continue working with local services to protect vulnerable residents and ensure that anyone experiencing abuse knows help is available.
