A Harrow resident is calling for a blue plaque to be installed at Adrian Court on Pinner Road after it was confirmed that Sir Frank Williams lived in the block in the early 1960s.
The call comes just days after Harrow Council refused plans to demolish the three-storey building at 283–295 Pinner Road and replace it with a new four-storey development containing 26 flats.
Sir Frank Williams, who went on to found Williams Racing, lived in a flat at the address while trying to establish himself in motor racing. At the time, he shared accommodation with other young drivers as he worked to build contacts and funding in the sport.
Williams later became one of the most influential figures in Formula One history. His team won multiple Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships and played a major role in shaping modern F1.
The resident who contacted Harrow Online said the building should be formally recognised for its connection to Williams, particularly given the recent redevelopment proposal.
They said installing a blue plaque would acknowledge the site’s place in British sporting history and ensure that a key part of Williams’ early life story is remembered locally.
Blue plaques are typically awarded to buildings where notable figures lived or worked and are used across London to mark significant historical links.
Sir Frank Williams died in 2021 at the age of 79. His legacy continues through Williams Racing, which remains part of the Formula One grid.
