Residents in Harrow may have spotted a familiar sight on patrol this week as neighbourhood officers took to the streets in a restored Rover 827 as part of a community engagement initiative.
The Rover 827 was a common police patrol vehicle during the 1990s and was widely used across the Metropolitan Police.
This time, the car was not being used for enforcement. Instead, officers from Harrow Neighbourhoods used it to speak with residents, answer questions and chat with people in a more relaxed way.
The vehicle drew plenty of attention from passers-by, with many stopping for a closer look and sharing memories of seeing similar police cars on the roads years ago.
Sergeant Owen-Evans said: “This is a simple but effective way to engage with the community. It gives people a chance to talk to us, share memories and see policing in a more approachable and friendly light.”
Police say the historic vehicle will return to Harrow Town Centre soon as part of further community engagement activity.
Officers said they remain committed to being visible, accessible and connected to the community, whether on foot, in modern patrol cars or with a nod to policing history.
