People in Harrow are being asked to help name two new surgical robots that will begin operating next week at Northwick Park Hospital and Ealing Hospital.
The hospitals have launched a competition and are inviting ideas from both staff and the local community. “We’re looking for some fun ideas and would really like our staff and the local community to get involved,” said CEO Pippa Nightingale.
“We encourage all our staff to wear ‘My name is ….’ badges to present a friendlier public face and that applies to our two newest employees.”
The two robots are expected to carry out around 700 procedures a year by 2027. They are designed to help surgeons carry out more precise operations, with patients likely to recover quicker and see better outcomes.
Anyone who wants to take part can email their suggestions to lnwh-tr.communications@nhs.net. Entries should include ‘robot naming competition’ in the subject line, along with a name for each robot and which hospital it is for (Northwick Park or Ealing).
The trust pointed to a well-known naming competition for a £200 million Arctic research ship, where the public chose Boaty McBoatface, although that name ended up being used for a smaller submersible instead. They are hoping for a smoother process this time and say all ideas are welcome. The deadline to enter is 14 May.
