Residents across Harrow are being encouraged to get outdoors, learn new skills and help protect local wildlife through a community programme called Wild Harrow.
The initiative brings together people of all ages through volunteering opportunities and training focused on nature conservation, wildlife and improving the borough’s green spaces.
Wild Harrow is delivered by Voluntary Action Harrow, Harrow Nature Conservation Forum and Harrow Parks Forum. The programme aims to help residents develop practical environmental skills, improve their wellbeing and play a role in supporting local biodiversity.
Activities include conservation projects, habitat improvement work and opportunities to learn more about wildlife in Harrow. Organisers say the programme is open to both experienced volunteers and those getting involved for the first time.
A programme spokesperson said: “Wild Harrow is about bringing people closer to nature while creating opportunities to learn, volunteer and make a meaningful difference locally. We want residents to discover the wildlife on their doorstep and become part of a growing movement to protect and celebrate Harrow’s natural spaces.”
Research has shown that spending time in nature can help improve mental wellbeing, encourage physical activity and strengthen community connections.
Organisers say Wild Harrow provides an opportunity for residents to meet new people, gain confidence and contribute to projects that help protect Harrow’s parks, nature reserves and other green spaces.
