Montrose Avenue in Burnt Oak was closed off by the London Fire Brigade for around four hours earlier today following reports of a chemical incident.
Fire crews attended the road at around 11.30am on 17 July and carried out checks before the scene was handed over to the local water authority.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade told Harrow Online, “Firefighters were called to a chemical incident on Montrose Avenue in Edgware. After a thorough investigation by the Brigade’s HAZMAT team, no elevated readings were found and the scene was left with the local water authority.
“The Brigade was called at 1130.”
What is a HAZMAT team?
A HAZMAT team is a specialist unit trained to deal with hazardous materials, including chemicals, gases and other potentially dangerous substances.
Firefighters use specialist equipment to test the air and surrounding area for harmful readings and to determine whether there is a risk to the public.
The Brigade confirmed that no elevated readings were detected during its investigation.
