A Blue Badge has been stolen from a car after its window was smashed in Harrow Weald, prompting a warning to other residents.
The incident is reported to have happened on Whittlesea Road or Whittlesea Path between 8pm on Thursday, July 23, and 2pm on Friday, July 24.
The car’s owner said the driver’s side window had been broken and their disabled parking badge taken from inside.
Writing on Nextdoor, the resident said: “Unfortunately, it seems like this type of crime is becoming more frequent in our area, so I wanted to make others aware and encourage everyone to be extra vigilant.”
They have asked people living nearby to check CCTV, Ring doorbell and dashcam recordings from the time of the incident.
“If anyone was in the area during that time and saw anything suspicious, or has CCTV, Ring doorbell, or dashcam footage that may have captured anything, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could get in touch,” the resident said.
“Even a small detail could make a difference.”
The owner has also asked residents to look out for a discarded Blue Badge, as they believe it may have been thrown away after being taken.
Another Blue Badge reported stolen in Harrow
The report follows a separate warning posted in the Harrow Online Group after suspicious activity was allegedly seen on Angel Road, Harrow, during the early hours of June 29.
The post claimed a group of men had been looking into and photographing cars between midnight and 2am.
It said: “Please be vigilant and lock cars/install cameras. If you live on surrounding roads and have cameras, please check them between 12 and 2am, as this has been reported to the police already.”
The contributor said a Blue Badge had also been stolen.
The Met advises motorists to always lock their vehicles and remove valuables from view. Police have also urged people to consider security measures such as alarms and CCTV.
What happens when a Blue Badge is stolen?
Harrow Council says anyone whose Blue Badge has been stolen must report the theft to police before applying for a replacement.
The council states: “If your Blue Badge is stolen you will need to report it to the Police before applying for a replacement.”
Victims can report the theft online or by calling 101 and should receive a crime reference number, which will be needed for the replacement application.
Government guidance warns that it is a criminal offence for someone to misuse a Blue Badge.
It states: “It is a criminal offence for you or anyone else to misuse the badge. Doing so could lead to a £1,000 fine and confiscation of the badge.”
The maximum sentence for theft in the Crown Court is seven years in prison, although sentences depend on factors including the value of the property, damage caused, previous convictions and the circumstances of the offence.
