Four people were arrested during a targeted police operation in Harrow town centre, which also resulted in a machete being recovered and drugs being seized.
The intelligence-led operation took place on Tuesday 28 July and involved officers from the Greenhill, Headstone and Marlborough neighbourhood policing teams, supported by a police dog unit.
According to police, the operation focused on tackling robbery, violence and anti-social behaviour in one of the borough’s busiest areas.
Machete recovered during stop and search
During the two-hour operation, officers carried out around 20 stop and searches.
Police said officers became suspicious of a man’s behaviour and carried out further enquiries before conducting a stop and search. A machete was allegedly found, seized and the man was arrested. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.
The operation also led to the arrest of a man who was wanted for failing to attend court, while two other people were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Police added that drugs were also recovered during the operation, with further action taken where offences were identified.
Sergeant Jack Stewart said: “This was an excellent example of proactive local policing in action. Thanks to the vigilance, experience and swift decision-making of our officers, a machete was recovered and taken off the streets before it could be used to cause harm. The operation also led to the arrest of a wanted offender and those suspected of involvement in other criminal activity. These results show the difference targeted, intelligence-led policing can make, and we will continue focusing our efforts on tackling the crimes that matter most to local people.”
Around 20 stop and searches carried out
The operation lasted around two hours and resulted in four arrests, the recovery of a machete, suspected stolen goods being seized and action relating to suspected drugs offences.
Police say similar targeted operations will continue to take place across Harrow as part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the borough.
