A burst water main has caused flooding and water supply problems in Edgware today, Sunday, August 2.
The incident was first reported at around 8:30am on Stonegrove, HA8, with residents experiencing no water or lower pressure than normal.
An update issued at 9:18am said flooding was affecting the northbound carriageway at the junction with Ware Court.
The 142 bus has also been diverted in both directions.
Repairs continue on Stonegrove
Affinity Water said: “We’re really sorry you haven’t got any water, or lower water pressure than normal. We’ve been made aware of a burst water main on Stonegrove which may be causing this.”
Engineers located the burst shortly after it was reported, with a second repair team called to the site later in the morning.
At 1:40pm, Affinity Water said adjustments had been made to the pipework and that water pressure on Amias Drive would be restored shortly.
The company’s latest update at 4:10pm said: “The repairs are ongoing.”
Affinity Water said the burst main had been shut in, meaning customers in the NW7 area who had been affected should no longer be without supply.
Advice for affected residents
Residents have been advised to avoid using washing machines, dishwashers and other electrical appliances that use water while repairs are taking place.
Affinity Water added: “If you still have water, we recommend you put some in your kettle or fridge for drinking in case your water needs switching off for the repair.”
A further update is expected this evening.
Second major burst in days
The incident comes just days after a separate burst water main caused major flooding on Spur Road in Edgware on July 28.
That burst affected homes and businesses across parts of HA8, WD6, WD7 and NW7, while routes 107 and 142 were diverted. Spur Road remains closed while the damaged carriageway is reinstated.
Affinity Water said the road will reopen once the work has been completed and it is safe to do so.
