Harrow residents are being offered the chance to gain new qualifications and access routes into employment through a new £1.4 million skills programme.
The funding has been secured by Learn Harrow for London Talent Pathways (LTP), which will provide training and employment support for people at different stages of their careers.
The programme is aimed at residents looking for their first job, returning to work, considering a career change or hoping to develop their existing skills.
Training for growing sectors
Courses will focus on three main areas: health and social care, finance and professional business services, and education.
Health and social care training will include areas such as childcare and adult care, while finance and business courses will cover skills including business administration and customer service.
Education courses will also be available for residents interested in preparing for work in schools.
Learners will be able to work towards industry-recognised qualifications from Level 1 upwards.
Evening courses will also be available for people who are already working but want to develop their skills or qualifications.
Support to help residents into work
Alongside vocational training, residents taking part will be offered additional support depending on their needs.
This will include English language and maths support, digital and vocational skills training, CV writing, interview preparation and help with searching for jobs.
Participants will also be able to receive one-to-one guidance from experienced advisers.
Councillor Chetna Halai, Cabinet Member for Business and Property, said: “This is about opening doors for Harrow residents. London Talent Pathways will help people gain the skills, qualifications and confidence to move into work, progress in their careers and access real opportunities with local employers.
“This is one of many ways we’re putting residents first and we’ll continue to look at ways to open new opportunities.”
Guaranteed interviews for successful learners
One of the key parts of London Talent Pathways will be connecting residents who complete their training with employers.
Successful participants will have access to guaranteed job interviews with employer partners, providing a more direct route from training into potential employment.
The programme is also intended to support employers looking for people with relevant skills as demand grows across a number of industries in London.
