Hundreds of people took part in a Hindu chariot procession through Harrow Town Centre today, Sunday 6 September.

Harrow Online was there as the procession made its way along Hamilton Road, next to the Big Tesco, with large crowds following the decorated chariot through the area.

The event was part of the Shri Sithi Vinayagar Chariot Festival, organised by Shri Sithi Vinayagar Thevasthanam, which is based nearby on Nibthwaite Road.

Traditional music could be heard throughout the procession, with drumming, chanting and wind instruments helping create a lively atmosphere.

Tamil Hindu temple processions often feature instruments including the nadaswaram, a powerful traditional wind instrument, and the thavil, a barrel-shaped drum commonly played at religious events and festivals.

Many of those attending walked alongside the chariot, while others stopped along the route to watch as it passed through the town centre.

The event was well organised, with security staff on hand throughout and temporary road restrictions in place to allow the procession to move through the area safely.

Families, children and people of all ages were among the hundreds who attended, with many taking part in the religious celebrations as the chariot moved along Hamilton Road and surrounding streets.

The procession formed part of the annual Ther Thiruvizha tradition, where a temple deity is taken out into the community on a decorated chariot.

Harrow Online previously reported that the route included Station Road, Hindes Road, Hamilton Road and Nibthwaite Road.

The festival has become a familiar annual sight in this part of Harrow, bringing together members of the local Hindu community for a morning of worship, music and celebration.
