Residents in Queensbury have launched a road safety campaign following the fatal collision on Honeypot Lane last month.
More than 40 people attended a special community meeting on Tuesday night amid concerns about speeding, dangerous driving and a series of serious collisions in the area.
The meeting was organised at short notice following the crash on Honeypot Lane on Sunday, 30 August, in which a 25-year-old man died.
Residents call for action
Omid Fadakar, Chair of the Queensbury Police Ward Panel, called the meeting, which was held in the Community Room at Morrisons in Queensbury.
He said: “The tragic death on Honeypot Lane has brought home just how serious this has become.
“Residents are seeing speeding cars, dangerous driving and near misses far too often. We cannot wait for another tragedy before action is taken.”
Queensbury Ward Councillor Jayanti Patel attended alongside residents from Queensbury and neighbouring areas.
People at the meeting raised concerns about speeding, dangerous driving, near misses and vehicles making loud ‘pop and bang’ noises, particularly at night.
Other roads mentioned included Mollison Way, Princes Avenue and roads around Kingsbury.
Concerns were also raised about videos of dangerous driving being shared on TikTok and other social media platforms, amid fears that such footage can glamourise reckless behaviour.
Campaign and petition to be launched
Residents agreed to launch a campaign and public petition calling for tougher action to improve road safety.
Omid added: “More than 40 people came to this meeting because they have had enough. We are launching this campaign to make sure residents are heard and to push for real action.”
The campaign will seek support from Brent Council, Harrow Council, local police and Transport for London, with residents calling for a joined-up approach across borough boundaries.
Among the issues it will focus on are speeding, dangerous driving, enforcement and excessive vehicle noise.
Honeypot Lane has been the scene of several serious incidents in recent months. In January, a 10-year-old boy was critically injured after being hit by a car while crossing the road on his scooter.
Fatal crash prompted meeting
The latest campaign follows the collision involving a car and an N98 night bus on Honeypot Lane.
The 25-year-old driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, while the bus driver suffered life-changing injuries. Three men were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Further details about the residents’ petition and campaign are expected to be announced shortly.
