Post Office and TG Jones in St Anns Shopping Centre to close in January

TG Jones in St Anns Shopping Centre in Harrow Town Centre is set to close early next year, along with the Post Office branch located inside the store.

Harrow Online understands from shop staff that both the store and the Post Office are expected to close on Saturday 9 January 2027. However, the Post Office has said that a final closure date has yet to be confirmed.

A closing-down sale is expected to begin at the store tomorrow, Friday 18 September.

The store is located at Unit 14 in St Anns Shopping Centre, close to the College Road entrance and next to Primark.

From WH Smith to TG Jones

The shop traded for many years as WH Smith before changing to the TG Jones name in 2025.

WH Smith sold its UK high street business to Modella Capital, with branches across the country subsequently rebranded as TG Jones. Harrow Online reported at the time that both the Harrow Town Centre branch and the store in Pinner had changed names. The store has been a longstanding part of the shopping centre since it was built in 1987.

Harrow Post Office previously based on College Road

Harrow’s main Post Office was previously associated with the large Post Office site at 51 College Road, close to Harrow-on-the-Hill station.

The former Post Office buildings were later demolished as part of the Harrow Square redevelopment. Planning permission for the site was granted in 2016, with construction beginning in January 2017. The development, which included 318 flats and new commercial and community space, was completed by the end of March 2019.

Second TG Jones and Post Office closure in the borough

The news follows the recently announced closure of the TG Jones branch on Bridge Street in Pinner.

The Pinner Post Office, which operates from inside that store, is due to close on 14 October 2026. Post Office Ltd has said it is reviewing applications from potential operators to continue providing a branch in Pinner.

Harrow Online previously reported that Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner MP David Simmonds had launched a petition calling for the Post Office service in Pinner to be protected.

A spokesperson for TG Jones told Harrow Online: “As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our St Anns Shopping Centre location in Harrow will close. We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community.

“Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period. We would like to thank all of our colleagues in Harrow for their commitment and the contribution they have made to TG Jones.”

A Post Office spokesperson added: “We fully recognise the challenging trading conditions that TG Jones and many other High Street retailers are facing at the moment. TG Jones had its Restructuring Plan approved by the High Court on 1 July. Consequently, TG Jones is to close their Harrow store. Regrettably, Harrow Post Office is due to close in early 2027. The date is being finalised.

“We know how important our products and services are to the local community. The vacancy has been advertised and we have heard from interested retailers and we are looking more closely at the expressions of interest. We want to open a replacement branch as soon as possible, but this can take around six months. In the interim alternative branches will be Wealdstone, Kenton, Moreton Hall and Watford Road.
