Traditional Navratri celebrations to return to Harrow this October

A major Navratri celebration is returning to Harrow this October, with ten nights of traditional music, dancing, worship and community activities planned at Byron Hall.

The event is organised by the International Siddhashram Shakti Centre, which is based in Wealdstone and has been part of the local community for more than 25 years. This year’s celebrations will run from Saturday 10 October to Tuesday 20 October at Harrow Leisure Centre, with doors opening at 7pm and the main programme starting from 8pm.

What is Navratri?

Navratri is one of the best-known festivals in the Hindu calendar and is celebrated by millions of people around the world.

The festival is dedicated to the divine feminine, particularly Goddess Durga and her different forms, and is traditionally marked over nine nights.

For many families, Navratri is also a major social occasion. Celebrations often include Garba, where people dance together in circles, and Dandiya Raas, which uses decorated sticks as part of the dance.

Siddhashram in Wealdstone

The International Siddhashram Shakti Centre was established in London in 2000 and is based on Palmerston Road in Wealdstone.

Over the years, the centre has become a local base for Hindu worship, cultural events, charitable work and community activities.

As well as large celebrations such as Navratri, Diwali and Holi, the centre runs regular prayer sessions, children’s activities and community programmes throughout the year.

Its work is aimed at keeping traditions alive while also giving younger generations and local families a place to meet, take part and stay connected.

The celebrations will take place at Byron Hall, Harrow Leisure Centre, Christchurch Avenue, Harrow, HA3 5BD, from 10 to 20 October 2026.
