Potential operators have been shortlisted to run a new Post Office in Harrow Town Centre following strong interest in taking over the branch, according to Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas.
The current Post Office inside TG Jones at St Anns Shopping Centre is due to close in early 2027 when the store shuts. Harrow Online previously reported that Post Office Ltd was looking for a replacement operator and had received expressions of interest.
Thomas said he met representatives from Post Office Ltd today, Tuesday 29 September, to discuss the future of the service and the campaign for a replacement branch in the town centre.
Applicants shortlisted for Harrow branch
Posting on social media after the meeting, Thomas said: “Post Office Ltd confirmed to me that they have received a large number of applications to run the new branch, with more interest in running Harrow’s branch than any other location.”
He added: “They have now shortlisted potential applicants and are going through the process of deciding who will run the new branch.”
No potential operator or location for the replacement branch has yet been announced. Thomas said he had stressed the importance of keeping the service within Harrow Town Centre.
He said: “I made clear that the new Post Office must be in Harrow Town Centre and must be financially sustainable for the long term.”
Current Post Office due to close
The existing Harrow Post Office operates from Unit 14 at St Anns Shopping Centre, inside TG Jones. The Post Office currently lists the branch as providing services including personal and business banking, postal services, passport applications, vehicle tax and foreign currency.
Harrow Online reported earlier this month that TG Jones and the Post Office are expected to close early next year. At the time, Post Office Ltd said the final closure date was still being confirmed and that it wanted to open a replacement branch “as soon as possible”.
Thomas described the latest development as encouraging, but said the campaign would continue.
He said: “The future of a Post Office in Harrow Town Centre is looking much more positive – but we’re not taking anything for granted.”
