The evacuation of Harrow town centre following the discovery of a suspect package has ended with the package deemed ‘non suspicious’.
A Met police spokesperson told Harrow Online: ”Police attended St Ann’s Road, Harrow at 1707hrs on Wednesday, 16 October following reports of a suspect package.
“Temporary evacuations were put in place whilst the item was assessed and deemed non suspicious. Specialist teams attended.
“The incident has now been stood down.”
The incident caused panic amongst residents of Harrow that wondered what was going on. Speculation was rife on social media with most people suspecting that a suspicious package had been discovered.
People on social media who were at Harrow during the time of the evacuation have commented: “Something serious happening in #Harrow. Police cordoned off St Ann’s shopping centre and most of St Ann’s Road. Officers asking staff to leave their shops.”
Another person said:
“Got off my train to find St Ann’s in Harrow has been closed for an hour+
“Reports of a suspicious package being found in Primark.
”Apparently staff were told to leave immediately, lots of people standing around waiting to be let in to get their stuff.”
We are pleased to report that all cordons have now been removed and police have left the scene.
