Woman from Harrow stars in Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas on Channel 4

A woman from Harrow is set to star in a hit Channel 4 television series later this month.

Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas is a crafting competition that showcases crafters from all over the UK encompassing different types of Christmas creations from handmade gifts, decorations, paper crafting to gingerbread houses. This year’s series started on Monday (December 12).

Nisha Vaja, 42, from Kenton in Harrow said: “Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas is one of my favourite crafting shows, I felt honoured to be asked to participate. It was late September when I actually found out that Channel 4 loved my designs and that I would be participating in the tree decorating Competition. I had 3 weeks to make almost 200 individual handmade pieces which would go on to decorate an 8ft tree.

“As a British Asian, I wanted my tree decorations to reflect my heritage and upbringing so I designed and handmade Asian-inspired tree decorations with the idea in mind that they could be used as decorations around the home for any festive celebrations, from Diwali, family gatherings, parties – Decorations not just for Christmas!

“I was always described as a shy and reserved individual, if I could tell my 16-year-old self that I would be taking part in a TV show I would have never believed it. For someone that suffers from anxiety and lack of confidence, I was completely pushed past my comfort zone taking part in this competition. I am really proud of the internal obstacles that I have overcome.”

In each episode, four crafters will battle it out to win the best in their category and receive the greatest present of all – a very special handmade trophy.

Nisha along with three other contestants compete to decorate Christmas Trees with their own unique handmade Christmas decorations under timed conditions, the tree Decorating competition will air on Channel 4 on Wednesday 21st December at 5pm.

Judges on the show will be sharing their tips and tricks with viewers so that you can craft along making some special Christmas creations at home yourself.

A spokesperson for the show said of all four contestants: “They are all incredibly inventive and unique, but only one can take home today’s trophy.  Also, our competition judge shows us how to create an awe-inspiring alternative to a tree, Kirstie shows us a quick trick to make a tasty treat, and we revisit a quirky craft from Christmases past.”
