Harrow will fall silent this Sunday (9 November) to honour those who served and sacrificed their lives in the First and Second World Wars and in conflicts since.
Remembrance Sunday services will take place across the borough, including in Harrow Town Centre, Pinner, and Edgware. Harrow’s service is recognised as the largest outside of the Cenotaph in Westminster.
This year marks 106 years since the first Armistice Day commemoration in 1919. The Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Anjana Patel, will lead the town’s service alongside the King’s Representative Deputy Lieutenant, Mr Simon Ovens.
The parade will include members of the armed forces, cadets, scouts, and other community organisations. It will begin at 10:15am on Greenhill Way, proceed through Station Road, and stop at the war memorial on St Anns Road. Traffic will be paused for a short time while the parade takes place.
A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am, followed by prayers and wreath laying. The winners of the Mayor’s children’s poetry competition will also read their poems during the ceremony.
Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Anjana Patel said: “We must never forget the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom today.
“On remembrance Sunday, we honour and remember those past and present serving in our armed forces. I encourage everyone to wear their poppy with pride and attend services taking place. We will remember them today and for years and generations to come.”
