Harrow Council’s free services to help residents get fit for 2023

Let’s face it, whilst getting healthy can be so good for the body and mind, it can be hard sticking to those New Year’s resolutions – especially with the rain and cold weather we’ve had to kick off 2023.

Thankfully, Harrow Council have offered residents some useful services and advice to not only get fit, but stay fit as we progress throughout the year.

One of the of the services on offer, Shape Up Harrow, is a free programme that gives residents the opportunity to lose weight over 12 weekly sessions. Starting this month, eligible people in Harrow can sign up and access the sessions and courses. The sessions are open to adults aged 18-65 with a BMI of 30 or 27.5 for higher risk groups.

Another popular initiative is the Harrow Health Walks programme. The walks are completely free of charge and for anyone who wants to get more active, meet new people in a social environment and explore Harrow’s hidden gems whilst getting fitter in the process.

All of the walks in Harrow are led by qualified leaders. You can walk at your own pace and everyone is welcome regardless of age and fitness level. You do not need to book in advance meaning you can just turn up on the day ready to walk!.

Two new walks for 2023 include a North Harrow Circular Hike and for the more experienced walker, the Grim’s Dyke Heritage Trail. You can see a full programme of upcoming walks across the borough here.

This scheme is part of the Ramblers Wellbeing Walks, England’s largest network of wellbeing walk schemes.
