Plans to create a separate commercial unit within part of Curry Mahal’s premises in South Harrow have been approved. Harrow Council granted conditional permission on 19 October for the changes at 372–374 Northolt Road.
Under the plans, Curry Mahal would retain No. 372 and part of the ground floor of No. 374, with the remaining section becoming an independent unit. The application proposes retail, office/professional services or health and beauty uses for the new space.
Restaurant retained under the plans
The supporting planning statement says Curry Mahal would continue operating from smaller premises alongside the new unit. An internal dividing wall would separate the two businesses, with the new unit having its own entrance and retaining two existing toilets.

The plans also include black aluminium-framed glazing and doors for the new shopfront and replacement glazing across Curry Mahal’s frontage.
The work would reorganise the existing ground floor without extending the building.
Council approves changes with conditions
Planning officers concluded that the subdivision would fit the commercial character of the parade and contribute to the area’s role as a centre for local business.
They did not expect a significant increase in traffic, given the relatively modest size of the new unit. The council recorded no replies to seven neighbour notifications. Conditions require both premises to remain within Class E, the planning category covering a range of commercial, business and service uses.
If an occupier seeks to use a commercial kitchen, details of extraction and odour-control equipment must be submitted for council approval. The permission does not approve advertising or signage, which may need separate consent.
